Wall fitting for rear drain.
The drain system consists of a drain opening in the footwell. The drain valve located in the equipment compartment controls the drain.
Draining the spa
-
Disconnect power from the spa. If a 115 volt model is being drained, unplug the GFCI and place the GFCI and the cord in an elevated position to prevent water from entering the GFCI.
-
Access the equipment compartment.
-
Remove the drain cap from the drain.
-
Vent the spa cover by folding it in half or opening it entirely.
-
Open the drain valve by turning the black knob of the drain clockwise. The spa will drain by gravitational flow. The spa should drain almost completely using the main drain.
-
If winterizing the spa, use a cup or soft rags to remove any excess water from the spa or the equipment compartment.
-
Additionally, leave the drain partially open to allow any water that gets into the spa to drain.
-
Close the drain valve by turning the black knob counterclockwise.
-
Reinstall the drain cap onto the main drain.
-
Refill spa.
-
Connect power to the spa.
-
Removal
-
Disconnect power to the spa.
-
Drain the spa.
-
Access the equipment compartment.
-
Locate the drain in the equipment compartment.
-
Remove the drain cap.
-
Remove the Phillips Head screw from the top of the drain handle.
-
Remove the drain handle.
-
Tip the spa upside down or onto its side.
-
Locate the drain opening in the wood toe-kick. The drain is located directly behind this wood.
-
Beginning at this spot, remove foam until the drain valve is exposed.
NOTE: Be sure to remove enough foam so the drain valve can be cut from the plumbing. -
Cut plumbing lines on each side of the drain valve as close as possible.
-
Lift the drain valve straight up to remove it. Discard the drain valve.
-
Remove the threaded section of plumbing from the opening in the toe-kick.
-
Using a coupler and a small length of hose, couple the drain valve to the remaining plumbing.
NOTE: Be sure the drain valve is located so the valve stem can be accessed from the equipment compartment. -
Glue the hose adapter onto a 2-1/2" piece of 3/4" PVC pipe.
Thread the PVC pipe end through the toe-kick and test fit it into the drain valve. The hose adapter should extend through the toe-kick far enough so a drain cap can be installed. -
Glue the PVC pipe and hose adapter into the drain valve.
-
Using a foam kit, replace all the foam removed to access the drain valve.
-
Apply the foam to seal the bottom of the spa.
