Hot Tubbing With a Crowd

One of the best parts about having a hot tub is inviting over friends and family for fun and relaxation. When inviting over a number of people at once for a hot tub get-together, keep in mind a few comfort and safety tips that will make the event more enjoyable for everyone.

Chemicals
Check the chemical balance the day before to make sure everything is in order. Add sanitizers as needed and use test strips to determine the correct levels of all hot tub chemicals. This will prevent anyone from getting sick unnecessarily. Check the chemical packaging to see exactly how long to wait before using the spa after making changes to the water.

Cleaning
If you have not cleaned your spa lately, this would be a good time to do so. Check to make sure there is nothing inside that shouldn’t be there. Remove it if there is. Check your hot tub filters to make sure they are not oversaturated and are doing their job.

Temperature
The more people in the hot tub, the cooler the water temperatures will become. Set it just a little bit higher, but not by much. Do not go over 110 degrees F regardless of how cool the water feels or how many people are in it. This is too hot for anyone. When a few people get out, lower the temperature to a maximum of 104 degrees F.

Children
Keep in mind that children have a lower tolerance for high heat. Make sure an adult is present at all times to prevent misbehaving or dangerous behavior. Set an age and/or height limit you are comfortable with and make sure your guests know about it beforehand.

Towels
Keep a few extra clean towels on hand. Someone always forgets to bring one. Put a towel rack in a convenient place near the spa to allow the fabric to dry out as well as prevent large trails of water creating a slipping hazard on the flooring around the hut tub area.

Cautions
Those with serious medical conditions should consult with their doctor before joining the party. Mixing alcohol consumption and hot tubbing can have detrimental effects on some people, so be sure to wait until after everyone is out to serve adult beverages to those of age.
